Psyche was so beautiful that the goddess Aphrodite (Venus) was jealous of her and ordered Cupid to make her fall in love with an ugly and poor man. But Cupid, as soon as he sees her, falls in love with her, kidnaps her and becomes her beloved and mysterious wife who visits her every night.
